Gravity shapes us. From birth to death, what bodies can do is bound by what they weigh. Things fall, softly or heavily, constantly or all at once. Some things are too heavy to carry, or to lift. Some things carry us.
Sinéad Rushe, director of the Olivier nominated Out of Time with Colin Dunne (The Pit, Barbican, Baryshnikov Arts Centre, New York) joins forces with leading choreographers and scientists to create a startling new show about the mechanics of weight and what happens when we face the limits of our strength.
Violent, lyrical and funny, Loaded combines an evocative original sound score with texts ranging from ancient literature to modern scirence. Its performers use everything from sandbags to ballast and from pulleys to planks, to explore how bodies and structures learn to bear loads - or fall apart.
Loaded is supported by Arts Council England, Ernest Cook Trust, The Place, Unity Theatre Trust, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London and British Science Association.
Directed by Sinéad Rushe and commissioned by The Place as part of Choreodrome 2017.
Scribbled Thought and Out of Inc. present
"Loaded is an exciting mix of science and performing arts. It is an innovative learning experience with facts and demonstrations - yet reaches out to the creative side in us all through the experience of live performance, participation and exploration. It really is too good to miss out on!”
Stuart Adams, Enrichment Coordinator, Ormiston Academies Trust
"Exquisite, ironic and sharply engaging theatre... a bold and intelligent delight.”
Evening Standard (on Life In The Folds, Sinéad Rushe)
“Theatre at its innovative, exuberant best." The Independent (on Out of Inc)
